Growing up in Texas, there isn’t a lot of legal gambling allowed. Not even online. So when I move to Clarksville, I got really excited because II was finally able to place LEGAL wagers on my favorite sport, football.
It started off fine, sure. On Thursday I took the Lions moneyline thinking “Ok, Super Bowl hangover for the Chiefs, and Kelce and Jones aren’t playing. I could see a huge upset happening.” Sure enough, Lions win by 1 point and I walk aways with about $50 in profits.
Then Saturday comes. I’m not a HUGE college football fan, not nearly as passionate as I am about the NFL, but I figure why not try another underdog moneyline bet and I take Texas over Alabama. BOOM! Another $265 in my pocket.
I’m feeling awesome going into Sunday. I’m thinking “Gambling, more like WINNING am I right?” Wrong.
I had a 5 Leg Parlay. All moneyline winners. Jaguars. Ravens. Eagles. Dolphins. But then the Browns just HAD TO BEAT the Bengals.
Ok, one loss, not the end of the world.
I then bet AJ Brown AND Devonta Smith of the Eagles would both catch a TD. Wrong. Brown didn’t get one.
Shake it off. It’s only two bets. We still have Russell Wilson throwing 2 TD’s AND the Broncos winning. How hard can it be, right? They’re playing the freaking RAIDERS. Russ gets 2 TD’s and then the Broncos proceed to LOSE BY ONE POINT.
Gross. Maybe this Bears/Packers Parlay of UNDER of 41.5 points and a Bears WIN will come through. Under hits, but the Bears go full Bears and get SMOKED by the Packers. Another crushing loss.
You wouild think that is the end of it, right? No. I’m not a smart person and believe the Sunday Night game can change my weekend. I throw down a $20 bet on Darren Waller being the first person to score a Touchdown in the game. Odds are +1400.
The Giants get the ball to the 10 and I’m riding high. They HAVE to get it to Waller. This is why they paid him. I go to dry my daughter off from the bath, next thing I know the Cowboys special teams is housing a turnover.
It was in that moment that I learned, gambling hates me and I should just delete my preferred gambling app and be done with it.
But again, I’m a glutton for punishment and not a smart person. I have bets on tonight’s Jets/Bills game and I’m pretty sure it will just end in my sadness. Again.
