Fancy Frozen Meal Review: Chef Ramsay Mushroom Risotto

I love Gordan Ramsay cooking shows. Hells Kitchen, Next Level Chef, Master Chef, and my all time favorite, Kitchen Nightmares. The one thing Chef Ramsay has preached time and time again is the importance of using FRESH ingredients.

So imagine my surprise as I was walking down the frozen food section and I stumble across his new line of frozen meals.

Naturally, I had to give it a try. I’ve always loved the way he describes, and pronounces, his famous Risotto. I’ve always said the two things I would absolutely try if I had the chance to dine at one of his restaurants is the Beef Wellington and the Risotto.

First of all, it takes all of 5 minutes to make. So that’s huge. If you’re going to do Frozen Food, chances are you’re not trying to slave over the stove and you’re in a bit of a hurry. So 5 minutes is a sweet spot for time. Not only that, It’s simple to make. Heat it up for 2 minutes with the film on, then take it off, stir, and back in for another 2 minutes then let it sit for a minute.

Second, the portion size is great. This is not a dish that is going to be a huge, filling meal. It is portioned for one person OR if you’re like me, enough for my wife, kid, and myself to have as a side. Again, frozen meals are more for people who want something fast and light. Consider those boxes checked.

Then we have the taste. It’s a tad salty. Most frozen meals are. But this one felt a little saltier than most. But the consistency is good, it’s what I would imagine it should have for a Gordon Ramsey frozen meal. Also, despite the tad over salt, it has a better than average taste. This meal knows exactly what it is, it’s an above average TV dinner with Chef Ramsey’s name on it. Which brings me to my final point.

The Price. Frozen Meals are not 5 Michelin Star dishes. Sure, some fall WAY beyond the point of good (looking at you generic brand Salsbury Steak) and you understand why it’s $3, but this one is $6. For a frozen dish, I can see where that might be a bit much. But factoring in the previous categories, based off time to make, portion size, and taste, $6 is a good price point for this meal.

So whether you’re trying to feel fancy eating a college style meal or you’re like me and would use it as a fast side to make with the dinner you’re cooking for a family, I would say this is worth the price and won’t hurt your grocery budget. Try it for yourself today!
