Alright hear me out on this one. I believe in tipping. So much so that I actually often OVER TIP when I go out to eat or order delivery.
Having said that, I do expect proper service. So when I order through DoorDash, and the instructions say “meet me at the doors”, that is what I expect.
So tell me why my dasher decided it was appropriate to just pull into the parking lot, roll down his window, and hang my food out of it and make me fetch?
Look, I can feel your eyes rolling. I get it. This is the biggest first world problem you will probably ever hear today. But dangit, that just didn’t sit right with me. It’s the same energy as the boyfriend who comes to pick up your daughter, pulls into the driveway, and then honks to let her know he is ready.
I’m not going to take this dudes tip away, that would be a pretty dbag thing to do, but I did contemplate it. It just felt a tad disrespectful, and I don’t like rewarding disrespectful behavior.
DoorDash transactions, to me, should go down like this:
- Driver pulls up to drop off
- Driver gets out of vehicle
- Driver hands you your food
- Driver says “Have a great day” then gets in their car and leaves
That’s it. That’s the most you have to do IMO. If you can’t handle that, then working might not be for you.
