Hard to believe we are approaching the three year mark since one of the greatest voices was lost. May 18, 2017 Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell was found in a hotel room, his death ruled a suicide. To fans, it was a shock and saddening. To his family, his wife Vicky and daughter Toni, it was earth shattering.
Music has such an incredible power to bring people together, to make us laugh or cry, smile or release frustrations. It has the power to heal. And in this time of Covid-19 where we are all shut in and there’s no concerts to go to, I think listening to music is even more important.
There have been several virtual concerts and benefits as of late. It’s a way for us to connect, watch our favorite artists perform and maintain that ‘social distancing’ which has become our new normal. Monies have been raised for a variety of things to aid in this pandemic and all the effects from it.
Cornell’s daughter, Toni, participated in one, LiveXLive‘s (Live by Live) Music Lives a couple of days ago. The 48 hour digital concert helped raise funds for MusicCares Covid-19 Relief Fund, which was created to help those in the music industry with their financial needs during this time. Toni also noted that the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation is donating $50,000 to MusiCares as well.
Toni did an absolutely haunting version of “Hunger Strike” by Temple of the Dog; the one time supergroup that starred her dad and Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam as well as other members from PJ and Soundgarden.
Check out her performance here and be sure to check out her Instagram. Holy cow does she have her daddy’s eyes! And from what you’ll hear… daddy would be VERY proud of his little girl!
