January 8th would have been David Bowie’s 73rd Birthday. He is missed by many, including Nine Inch Nails mastermind, Trent Reznor.
In a recent interview with Revolver magazine, Reznor stated:
“I read into all the breadcrumbs he’d put out — the clues in his lyrics that reveal themselves over time, the cryptic photographs, the magazine articles — and I projected and created what he was to me. His music really helped me relate to myself and figure out who I was.”
In 1995, the two hit the road together and Reznor refused to settle for his idol opening for him. So they figured out a way to play with each other, side by side.
With the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame leaving out so many well deserving nominees (Thin Lizzy, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Soundgarden) out of the Class of 2020, I have to give them credit for making sure Nine Inch Nails made the cut. Considering this year’s Class includes Whitney Houston and Notorious BIG, at least they got one thing right. Seriously, I am beginning to think the people who choose inductees are the same that pick Grammy nominees/winners. They really should change the name of facility to the Music Hall of Fame and drop the “Rock and Roll” moniker. But that’s a rant for another time.
By the way, David Bowie was inducted in 1996
So congrats to Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails for being inducted with the Class of 2020. To celebrate, here’s footage of David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails performing “Hurt” in 1995.
