Shinedown Drops New Song for Covid-19 Relief

When I sat down with the boss on Monday to discuss the music we’re playing and trying to decide if there’s anything new out there we should check out, I see a song show up from Shinedown that at first glance we just figured was another single from “Attention! Attention!”. But the we see 2020 as a release date.

So I hit up my friend Ad Rock from In De Goot Entertainment and ask him to send it on over to me. We listen, we love it. Ad Rock then tells me the reason for the song. Shinedown and the great humans that they are, they are releasing this song with the intent that 100% of the proceeds will go to Direct Relief. This organization is raising funds to help make sure our front line heroes have the equipment they need to treat the world during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

As of Monday, Shinedown’s efforts, which start by you purchasing a tshirt and then getting a download code for this ‘never before heard’ song, has raised over $250,000. Direct Relief as a whole so far has raised over $261.6 million that’s helped to purchase gloves, gowns, face shields, masks, and medicines.

The song, “Atlas Falls” was written back when the band did the “Amaryllis” record. While it didn’t make the final cut, frontman Brent Smith said he always thought that one day the world would hear it. That day, that time, is now.

As they should, they have only released a teaser clip, because the point is, you actually pay for it and help the cause.  So here’s a 60 second sample. If you open this and watch it ON YouTube, there is a link to the right of the video to donate.

We are playing the song here on z975 but if you want it for yourself you’ll have to donate. Now I mentioned earlier in this blog that the band had a tshirt available. You can pre-order a special “Atlas Falls” tshirt and with it you get a download of the song and 100% of the proceeds goes to the cause.

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
