Reason #943: New York Nurse Gets a Surprise

Jimmy Kimmel has been doing his show from home but it hasn’t stopped awesome things from happening. April 27th Jimmy’s #HealthCareHero of the night was an ER trauma nurse, TJ Riley. TJ works at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, NY and also had the virus. Kimmel surprised TJ with a virtual visit from Dave Grohl that included  $10k and gifts packages for nurses he works with. Oh, and a solo serenade from Dave. I would just DIE!!

Reason #944: Dave’s True Stories

Dave has been taking to his InstaGram account telling short versions of stories that you know would be EPIC to talk about over beers. I mean, given the chance, that’s what I want to do; I just want to sit down with Dave, drink and talk about life. His stories range from OzzFest, his mother, meeting Prince and David Bowie telling him to f**k off.

Reason #945: Paying Tribute to Prince

If you read Dave’s Stories on his IG, you’ll read where he met Prince. So being asked to be a part of the “Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince” that happened last month, you know he’s going to jump at the chance. Especially since it was the first time in 20 years since they did “Darling Nikki” Here’s a teaser and link to the FULL video

They also covered “Pop Life” which you can see here.

Reason #946: Dave the Writer

Dave, just like us, is jonesing to get back to normal. Get back to hanging out with friends, going to concerts, celebrating live music. Yesterday, Dave penned a piece for The Atlanticabout the uncertainty of all of us getting that life back. In the piece, Dave says:

In today’s world of fear and unease and social distancing, it’s hard to imagine sharing experiences like these ever again. I don’t know when it will be safe to return to singing arm in arm at the top of our lungs, hearts racing, bodies moving, souls bursting with life. But I do know that we will do it again, because we have to. It’s not a choice. We’re human. We need moments that reassure us that we are not alone. That we are understood. That we are imperfect. And, most important, that we need each other. I have shared my music, my words, my life with the people who come to our shows. And they have shared their voices with me. Without that audience—that screaming, sweating audience—my songs would only be sound. But together, we are instruments in a sonic cathedral, one that we build together night after night. And one that we will surely build again.

It’s a great read, so please check out the full article here. For me, reading this, further solidifies my love for the man. He’s just like us. He swears, he drinks beer, he loves his mom, he loves going to concerts and he loves his fans. We need him, and he needs us.

So I say to you, Mr. Dave Grohl, keep doing what you’re doing. Whether it’s killer InstaGram stories, surprise video chats, writing articles to let us know we are not alone, creating new songs, or stepping up to feed people thru Backbeat BBQ, you are an incredible human being and I for one think life is a whole lot better with you in it.
