I have to wonder if this was by accident or if this kid was a Super Skynyrd fan and knew exactly who he was stealing from.
On April 9th, a man stole a trailer from a Days Inn parking lot in Orange Park, Florida. Sadly, trailers like this get stolen frequently. What’s more sad, is a good majority of said trailers are filled with gear that belong to a band.
Apparently, William James Walker, decided to jack this trailer for whatever the reason and it had about $12,000 worth of Lynyrd Skynyrd memorabilia in it. The trailer was destined for auction…for a cancer benefit!! Story just keeps getting more heartbreaking doesn’t it?
The Jimmie Van Zant Cancer Charity Benefit was set to honor the late musician and founding member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, who died of liver cancer in 2016. Items that were set to be auctioned that were in the trailer included irreplaceable mementos from the band and a 1957 Les Paul guitar that had been signed by Gregg Allman and others. Some guitars contained signatures of members who aren’t alive anymore.
A warrant has been issued for Walker charging him with grand theft. He’s allegedly homeless and has frequented different hotels in the area.
