New Music Monday: Dirty Honey

Time to get you caught up on some of the new stuff we are spinning here at Z975.

It’s been a few weeks that we were in a holding pattern, but now that the holidays are over, time to get back at it.

The first NMM of 2022 belongs to the Los Angeles DIY’s Dirty Honey. This is a band that has restored my faith in grass roots efforts of making a name for yourself, without the help of a major label. The industry isn’t what it used to be; years ago it was cut throat trying to break thru the noise and get a deal. It’s only gotten worse.

Yet somehow, this four-piece figured out how to do it all on their own, scoring a number one song in 2019 from their self titled EP as an unsigned band. The first ever to do so, by the way. Now, they have their self titled full length that dropped in 2021 and are doing just fine for themselves.

The new single, “The Wire”, is a no frills rock song with big riffs and gravely vocals reminiscent of Robert Plant (without sounding like a ripoff like another band we know).

The band is heading out on The Young Guns tour with Mammoth WVH which should be a stellar lineup. That tour makes a stop in Nashville on February 8th at Marathon Music Works,.
