Time to catch up on some of the new tunes we’re spinning here at Z975!

Chris Daughtry got his first taste of fame when he auditioned on America Idol, placing fourth on the fifth season of the show in 2006. Shortly after, he formed Daughtry and released his debut album, which hit platinum status in its first week. Daughtry just released their sixth studio album, Dearly Beloved with the first single, “Heavy is the Crown” working its way up the rock charts. Daughtry kicks of the Dearly Beloved tour on November 2nd, with Sevendust and Tremonti.

Once known as The Cartunes, Los Angels band, Badflower, just released their sophomore full length album This is How the World Ends. When I listen to songs like “Heroin”, “30”, “F the World” and “Ghost”, I just want to hug these dudes. It seems like their are just perpetually….sad. Then again, I think that’s part of their appeal; they are speaking what so many think and don’t know how to express. Check out their new single, “Don’t Hate Me”.

There’s no mistaking the talent that runs thru Jerry Cantrell. As a co-founder of Alice in Chains, Jerry’s guitar playing and masterful harmonizing vocals with Layne Staley, made the band a pivotal part of the 90s grunge movement. And while Cantrell has kept AIC moving forward after Staley’s death with new singer William Duvall, he continues to make music on his own. From 1998’s Boggy Depot, to Degradation Trip Vol. 1 and 2 that came out in 2002 and now the forthcoming, Brighten, due out at the end of October. Check out the title track.

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
