New Music – Blink-182

New Music – Blink-182

Remember when Blink-182 were goofy young boys, with lyrics about sex, small things and growing up?

While they’ve grown up, at least in age, these boys have returned as goofy young men with a brand-new song and a giant (and expensive) tour soon to follow.

Blink-182 pretty much fell apart in 2015 when Tom DeLonge left the band to pursue UFO’s. Yes, really.  Drummer Travis Barker, spent his time playing with a variety of artists, furthering his tattoo collection and for some weird, unknown reason, landed a Kardashian. Bassist Mark Hoppus battled and beat cancer.

What’s really interesting is they tried to evolve with songs like “I Miss You” and “Stay Together for the Kids”. It didn’t quite work, and DeLonge left the band because they weren’t evolving like he wanted, so he formed Angels & Airwaves. And then went UFO hunting.

After all that, the band is back together again and much to the delight of their fans, who have also grown up.

The new song, “Edging”, will grab you immediately with provocative lyrics, make you question writing abilities with words that get repeated 4 times before moving on to the next portion of the verse. But the hook…. Lord is is catchy! And honestly, while their voices have matured, this one sounds like Blink-182 of old. That punk edge that made you love them to begin with, they’ve still got it.

The band is of course planning on hitting the road in 2023, but the ticket prices are not for the faint of heart. Tickets for their Nashville show, July 16th, 2023, at Bridgestone Arena are already running scarce and the resale prices I’ve seen are anywhere from $125 on up to $1500.
