Meet The Batman

When it comes to the Caped Crusader, we all have our favorites. Growing up, it of course was Adam West on my television.

Then came the movies with Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale and Ben Affleck. Through all the major Batman movies, while the stories have been different, writers and directors have differed, Christian Bale’s Batman is my favorite. Maybe it’s the darkness that Christopher Nolan brought to the trilogy. It’s funny, it seems every time I bring up Bale as my favorite Batman, there is someone to immediately counter with Keaton. I mean, there’s a big difference in how things looked between comic book level with Batman and Batman Beyond with Michael Keaton and what Bale brought to the Batverse.

The weakest portrayal? Val Kilmer and George Clooney. I loved Val in Real Genius, Top Gun and The Salton Sea but he wasn’t right for this. And while George is nice on the eyes, he wasn’t convincing as Batman to me. Maybe it was the nipples in his Bat Suit that kept me from taking him seriously.

Now, there’s a bunch of people that will still scream “No, Ben Affleck was the worst.” I disagree. I think he did a fine job and before I go down a totally different rabbit hole, Ben Affleck for me is a highly underrated actor. I honestly don’t get why people hate on him. I mean, he’s a brilliant writer and director too.

That brings us to now. A new spin and an alternate universe for Batman. Affleck will continue his role in the newest Suicide Squad (see below) but for this new vision? You thought people flipped out over Affleck, you can imagine, as maybe you were one of them, how much flipping was done with the name Robert Pattinson was dropped. Robert… as in Edward Cullen, the sparkly vampire who fell in love with a mortal in the “Twilight” series. I won’t lie, I read all those books and watched the movies too. Pattinson is another actor that I don’t think gets enough credit. Give him a chance by watching  Remember Me and  The Lighthouse.

I did some reading on how Pattinson refused to go the route of previous actors and would not bulk up to play Batman. I’ve read some comments about his massive amounts of ‘guyliner’ on his eyes. Um… didn’t almost every Batman do the same to blend into the mask more?

The Batman is slated for release in October of 2021 and will boast Zoe Kravitz (Lenny’s daughter) as Catwoman, Colin Farrell as Penguin, and Andy Serkis as Alfred. Not gunna lie, I’m excited to see Serkis as an actual human in a film.

The trailer looks enticing and also features a very haunting version of “Something in the Way” by Nirvana.

Anyway, for me, as a novice fan, I am excited as hell for this. A) it’s a new Batman movie and B) I think Robert is going to hit it out of the park. Just give him a chance. #TeamEdward

As a bonus, here’s a sneak peek at Suicide Squad 2 with Margot Robbie, John Cena and Idris Elba (yummy). Direct by James Gunn
