I love a good massage. Soft lighting, soothing music or the sound of waterfalls. Maybe some candles, relaxing scents, hot towels and good strong hands with oils to work out all the soreness, stiffness and kinks that have become the knotted mess that is my body.
I carry my stress in my neck, trapezoids and under my shoulder blades. I always feel like I’m presenting a challenge for my massage therapist because everything is soooo tight. But she is professional and knows just what to do to send me out after an hour feeling like a relaxed blob of goo. Yes, that’s a good thing.
Today I read about a “new” type of massage and it just made my body tense immediately. I say “new” because apparently it’s been around for a very long time in Taiwan but is just now catching some popularity here.
It’s the MEAT CLEAVER MASSAGE
You are probably saying WTF reading those three words just like I did. But I can’t make this up!
Here’s how it works:
You lie face down on the massage table. A towel goes over your back and then you get whacked with two dull meat cleavers repeatedly. Now, because of the towel, you’re not getting blade to skin and they are dull, but I mean….
The experts claim it’s quite good for your Chi, Aura, Chakra, which ever you want to call it… your energy.
What do you think? Check it out here. The beginning of the video explains how it works. Around the 9:44 minute mark is where you can see how the massage actually happens. It looks like you’re a piece of meat being tenderized.
