FOOtastic News! Foo Fighters Plot 25th Anniversary Tour, New Record

As you may know, I keep track of my many reasons to love Dave Grohl. Brace yourselves, I’m about to hit you with three new ones that all developed in the last handful of days.

Reason #942:

February 13th during a podcast,  Dave revealed that a new Foo Fighters album is complete!  No word on a title or release date but Dave hinted to the fact that there’s at least one piece that has been a serious work in progress:

“There’s a riff on the new record that I’ve been working on for 25 years – first time I demoed it was in my basement in Seattle, and every record I’m like ‘Ooh, let’s put it on,’ but it didn’t work.”

Reason #943:

Dave is working on another documentary film.  If you recall back in 2014, Dave directed “Sonic Highways” which was an eight episode series that documented the recording  of Foo Fighters eighth studio album at the 20 year mark in their career. Each song was recorded in a different city with different guest musicians and was what Grohl called “a love letter to the history of American music”.

In 2018, Dave Grohl released “Play” which is essentially a mini doc of him working on a 23 minute song on seven different instruments. Seriously, is there anything this guy can’t do?

Well, the new documentary Dave is working on is a look back to the culture of van touring. Just like the Foos did when they started 25 years ago.  Grohl said it will focus on the romance and turmoil that came with that lifestyle.

“Everybody had a van. Even before, like long before — vans go way back. So I’ve interviewed everybody, and you’d be surprised. Like, the Beatles toured in a van. Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, U2. There’s something about that time, you know, it’s like you wear it like a badge. You’re like, “Oh, shit, yeah.” I toured in a band for five years, sleeping on floors, butter sandwiches and getting paid two dollars a night.”

Reason #944

Foo Fighters are hitting the road!! Of course it’s the norm for a band to record a record, then hit the road. In the case of the Foos, they put out an album and then hit the highways for a couple of years to promote the new album.

Here’s where it gets different: it was 25 years ago the self titled debut from Foo Fighters was released. 25 years ago when Foo Fighters piled into a van and did their very first tour. So in honor of that, Grohl and company will retrace the steps of that first tour, hitting each city and… doing it in a VAN! That should provide some great footage for that upcoming documentary!

And wouldn’t you know it, we get a somewhat close date!! Anyone wanna buy me a ticket?
