It’s no secret tickets to the Super Bowl are freaking expensive. Like really, really expensive. Then you have to think about travel expenses, food, drinks and all the other entertainment you might want to take in as well.
The NFL still hasn’t figured out that it’s ok to book a band like Metallica for the halftime show. You know, cuz ever since the great Nipplegate scandal of 2004, they’ve wanted to play it safe. Of course nothing screams safe like putting Snopp Dogg and Eminem on stage together, but what to I know. (I wonder if Snoop will blaze up on stage?!?)
Anyway, a Foo Fighters are playing a free show after the game on Sunday night which to me is more exciting than the game or the commercials combined. And the cool thing, aside from that it is FREE, is that it’s being done in Virtual Reality.
They’ve teamed up with Meta Quest and the Horizons Venues app to stream this unique concert right to your Oculus headset.
Frontman Dave Grohl said:
“Foo Fighters love a challenge . . . from playing the biggest stages in the world to the tiniest clubs to making movies and miniseries. We’ve pretty much done it all . . .But we’ve never collaborated with [filmmaker] Mark Romanek on a conceptual set of songs for a worldwide audience. Join us when we cross that one off the [Foo Fighters] bucket list!”
So on a custom stage in the world of VR, the Foo Fighters will be playing songs they don’t play often, some they’ve never done live and of course some hits.
If you don’t have the Oculus gear, don’t worry. You can still watch the live stream on the Foo Fighters Facebook page in 2D. The show will start directly following the game or 7pm, whichever is later. If you miss it, it will be posted in Oculus TV and Horizon Venues.
