It was a tough year for Foo Fighters and their fans.
While we rejoiced in music released in 2021 (Medicine at Midnight) and a tour that was still going strong, our collective worlds came to a screeching halt with the death of Taylor Hawkins on March 25th, 2022.
Just a few short days later, the band announced the cancelation of remaining dates and announced they would be taking this year off to heal.
On Saturday, the band took to social media to announce that will continue on, but will be a “different band” without Taylor.
This gives me hope for the future. I mean, I don’t envision a world where Dave Grohl isn’t writing and performing music. Even with the death of Kurt Cobain, Dave rose from the proverbial ashes. That’s exactly how Foo Fighters was born. And while Taylor was his best friend and band mate, I believe, right along with Dave, that music is healing and the only way to truly close those wounds, is to continue to create what we have all come to love.
I won’t speculate on who will sit in Taylor’s chair. Sit…not replace. However, after the two tribute shows, while there were several worthy drummers that stepped up, Taylor’s 16-year-old son Shane being among them, I am kinda rooting for Shane to take his father’s reins.
Others have called Rufus Taylor of The Darkness a suitable replacement. Rufus was also a part of the tribute shows and looks eerily simlar to Hawkins.
Time will tell and as a fan of the Foos, they can have all the time in the world to find a drummer and their next path. I’m just happy to know that the show will go on.
