Foo Fighters Rumored to Reveal Drummer in Live Streaming Event

While we are still trying to understand the loss of Foo Fighters drummer, Taylor Hawkins, while we are still trying to heal, we know that there is light at the end of a very dark tunnel. As much as the Hawkins’ death rocked the world of us fans, I can only begin to imagine what that loss is like for Dave Grohl and the rest of the band.

Foo Fighters said they were doing to take a year off to try and figure out how to navigate their future, and in just over a year later, they announced not only a new song, but a brand new album as well.

Music has always been something universal. Something that brings people together, something we can relate to, something that can help us get through the tough times. It’s something cathartic. There’s no question that this entire album is going to be a tribute to Taylor and lyrically, it’s going to be a very, very emotional ride.

From the first single, “Rescued”, to the newly unveiled “Under You”, Grohl and the Foos are letting us all mourn, celebrate and heal together with their first post-Hawkins work, But Here We Are.

The biggest question of course remains, who is going to sit behind the kit now? Taylor was one of the best, with a style and a flair and an aggression unmatched by most. The dude hit HARD.

Likely, though not confirmed yet (at least as far as I’ve found), Dave tracked the drums in the studio, which would make sense, since he’s a drummer by nature. And while their were several amazing drummers that stepped up for the two tribute shows including Taylor’s 16-year-old son, Shane.

While it wouldn’t be the first time a drummer fronted a band, the idea that Dave Grohl will do that seems unlikely to me. So, who takes the stool?

I would love to see it be Shane. If you saw him play during those shows, you’d understand why, but after all, he’s 16, and touring is not for the weak.

Other names like Josh Freese, Matt Cameron, and Joey Castillo have been floating around, along with Rufus Taylor. Rufus was a part of the tribute shows and also has drumming in his DNA; his father is none other than Roger Taylor of Queen.  Maybe it will be a revolving lineup, like they did for the tribute shows. Who knows.

Speculation continues to grow, but the announcement has yet to be made. But that could change on Sunday.

Foo Fighters apparently are holding a free, live stream event on Sunday that will be coming from their Studio 606. According to the website veeps, which is hosting the event, “Foo Fighters: Preparing Music for Concerts”, will stream live at 2pm CDT, for free. The event will be rewatchable for three days after in case you miss it.

It’s said, or speculated if you will, that not only will it be the band sharing some of the But Here We Are album tracks, but that this event is when and where the band will announce who will be drumming on their upcoming tour.

You can log on to veeps now and reserve your “ticket” to watch the event.

Not sure about you, I’m planning my weekend accordingly. My butt will be in my recliner with beer in hand at 2pm on Sunday to check it all out.

In the meantime, you can check out the lyric video for the new song, “Under You”.

But  Here We Are drops on June 2nd. You can preorder it here.

Foo Fighters will be at this year’s Sonic Temple in Columbus OH, Sunday May 28th next week; Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, TN June 18 and Louder than Life in Louisville, KY on September 21st
