Word broke late last night about the passing of Taylor Hawkins and I am still in disbelief. Details are scarce at the moment but here is what we do know:

Foo Fighters have been on tour in South America for the last few weeks and were scheduled to perform in Columbia at the Festival Estereo Picnic on Friday night in Bogota.

EMS was dispatched to the hotel where the band was staying after receiving reports of “a patient with chest pains”. They attempt to resuscitate Hawkins, “however, there was no response, and the patient was declared deceased,” according to Bogota’s District Department of Health.

Authorities have opened an official investigation.

Here is the official statement from Foo Fighters via their social media:

May be an image of text that says 'The The Fo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely OSS of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.'

Once more details arise, we will keep you informed.  The band was scheduled to perform at this year’s Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis.

He was always so much fun to watch. Not just on drums, but in interviews and even the occasional stint as the Foo Fighters frontman, which you can see below.

He also had some acting chops outside of the always creative Foo Fighters videos. He portrayed Iggy Pop in the amazing film, “CBGB”, which I highly recommend not just a fan of Taylor, or Iggy, but music in general. It’s an incredible history lesson.

He was so full of life and personality and talent. And he will be missed so much.
