Rob Zombie has always been a fan of monsters and the macabre. In some cases, the more campy, the better, like his first film “House of 1000 Corpses”. With several horror films under his belt, Rob is going back to his childhood, where he grew up with the classic television show of “The Munsters”. Let’s not forget, Rob so loves The Munster, he had Herman’s car for the “Dragula” video.

The sitcom ran for two seasons on CBS and starred Fred Gwynne as Herman, who was essentially Frankenstein’s monster; his vampire wife Lily, played by Yvonne De Carlo and her Count Dracula father known simply as Grandpa, played by Al Lewis.

The show combined wholesome family life with the world of monsters living the suburban life, much like The Addams Family, which was airing around the same time on ABC.

Zombie is not the first to try and make a film of “The Munsters”. Back in 2012 there was a made for tv movie called Mockingbird Lane. Yea, I’ve never heard of it either.

I’ve been curious as to the approach Zombie would take. I mean, for him the gorier the better when it comes to his visions. He went so far as to complete recreate 1313 Mockingbird Lane; not a movie set, but actually building a full replica of the house on location in Prague. One would expect that this would be a twisted up version since it’s coming from his mind, but from the looks of this first teaser trailer, he may just keep it bloodless and keep it campy and funny.

Oh, and apparently, in color!  There’s the twist!

Zombie cast his wife, Sheri Moon as Lily; Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa and Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman. That lineup was announced back in October.
