Feel Good Friday: Couple Celebrates 60th Anniversary in Special Way

With all the ugliness and negativity that is surrounded us on the daily thru the news and social media, I’ve decided we all could use some positivity.

My sister posted this on Facebook this morning and I’m so glad she did.

This is a beautiful story of a couple in my hometown of Kearney, NE that just celebrated 60 years together. The Stone’s were teachers. Mr. Stone taught at the University of Nebraska – Kearney, although it was Kearney State back then. Mrs. Stone taught Home Economics at my high school; you know, that class that taught you how to cook, to sew, to care for an egg baby – life skills. She was so smart and such a sweet lady.

To celebrate their 60 years together, the Stone’s did a very special photo shoot: in their original attire. His tux, still looking sharp and her wedding dress that she made by hand herself, still gorgeous after six decades.

The photo session, by Katie Autry,  went viral. Newspapers like the Omaha World Herald did a story. The local ABC station in Kearney, NTV, featured them on the evening news and now NATIONAL ABC Evening News is sharing their love.

When so much of the mainstream media has been filled with nastiness, it’s nice to have something to celebrate and feel good about.

The Stone’s, by the way, offer up advice on a lasting marriage:

“From day one we have assumed marriage is forever,” said Lucille. “You do what you have to do and by no means have we been perfect in our marriage. We’ve had arguments. We’ve had disagreements, but on the big things we’re pretty much on the same track.”

So thank you, Mrs. Stone, for all you taught us about life in school. And to you both for continuing to teach us about love.

Happy Anniversary!!
