At the end of April, an amazing human being reached a multitude of milestones. Turning 100; raising over $40 million to benefit the UK’s NHS; being named an honorary Colonel by the Queen; and is set to be knighted after an online petition went viral.
World War II veteran, Tom Moore, has also won the hearts of millions all over the world and inspired others to follow in his footsteps.
He’s inspired a six-year old boy with spina bifida who is normally in a wheelchair, started his own walking campaign, using his walker, going short distances and has raised over $200,000
He’s inspired a nine-year-old boy with cerebral palsy to walk as well, raising $8,000… so far!
And now, another 100-year-old Muslim man from the UK who was inspired by Captain Tom, is walking the same path, literally.
Dabirul Islam Choudhury is walking laps in his garden to raise funds for both the UK and Bangladesh Covid-19 relief efforts. Choudhury was born in British Assam which is now what’s known as modern-day Bangladesh and moved to London in 1957 to study English literature. And it’s not just that he’s walking laps. He was doing it while fasting from Ramadan, which ran April 23rd-May 23rd.
He has so far raised over $170,000 to benefit the Ramada Family Community and it doesn’t sound like he’s slowing down. His son told the BBC London:
“When we started, we started at a small pace but he’s been increasing his number of laps he’s doing. The problem we have is that we have to try and stop him because he wants to carry on.”
A little inspiration from some very incredible people certainly has gone a very long way in a time when restored faith in humanity is desperately needed.
Here is a beautiful piece the BBC did on now SIR Tom being knighted for his efforts!
