The Holiday season brings out the charitable sides in most everyone. In the sport of hockey, teams from every level and league do a Teddy Bear Toss where when the home team scores their first goal of the game, fans throw teddy bears on the ice. Those bears are then gathered up and distributed to children in need at Christmas.
Well, the American Hockey League team of the Hershey Bears (farm club to the NHL’s Washington Captials) set a new world record on Sunday night when the Bears’ forward Riley Barber scored. 34, 798 teddy bears hit the ice after Barber’s goal. Those bears will be split between 30 different charities around the Hershey area.
By the way, the previous record was set in 2015 by the Calgary Hitmen (farm club to the NHL’s Calgary Flames) with 28,815 bears. And to add to the joy, the Hershey Bears beat the Binghamton Devils (NHL New Jersey Devils farm club ) 6-3
