UPDATE: 2 critically injured in head-on 5-vehicle crash on Bypass in Clarksville

Update, 6:10 p.m.: The wreck was caused by a westbound silver SUV crossing over into the eastbound lane, Gill said. It collided with two other SUVs, a pickup truck, and a semi truck.

Three people were injured. One was treated and released, but two were in critical condition.

Update, 1 p.m.: The Bypass is back open.

Update, 10:30 a.m.: The traffic backups are clearing, but the closure is still in effect. Traffic is being detoured onto Denny Road, East Old Ashland City Road and Ashland City Road.

Update, 9:50 a.m.: The Bypass remains closed, with traffic being turned around, as the investigation continues.

Update, 8:10 a.m.: Eastbound traffic is backed up to Old Ashland City Road. Westbound traffic, which is being turned around, is backed up almost to Madison Street.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A head-on collision on the 41A Bypass has the roadway fully closed.

At about 7:25 a.m., the vehicles crashed near Chesterfield Drive, according to Clarksville Police Lt. Charles Gill. Investigators are responding to the scene to take over the investigation.

The Bypass between Highway 12 and Denny Road is closed entirely, and drivers should find alternate routes until further notice.

“Unfortunately, this may affect some individuals getting to their business, but it can’t be helped,” Gill said. “Officers are working quickly to complete their investigation and clear the scene.”

No further details have been released.
