CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Three teenagers accused of attacking a Clarksville laundromat employee during a robbery in May 2018 have been indicted by the Montgomery County Grand Jury and will be tried as adults.

Clarksville police said that 71-year-old Ted Cook died June 9 at the hospital from the injuries he sustained in the initial attack on May 30 at the laundromat at 714 Peachers Mill Rd.

According to court documents obtained by ClarksvilleNow, the juveniles (15-year-old Jevon Brodie, 14-year-old Tavares Harbison, and 15-year-old Harrison Smith) have all been charged with two counts of first degree murder and three counts of especially aggravated robbery. Each teen’s bond has been set at $250,000.

Documents show that the teen suspects met all of the requirements to be tried as adults in court, pursuant to Tennessee code 37-1-134.

Police said the teens entered the laundromat on the night of May 30 and pointed a rifle at the Cook. After struggling with the suspects, Cook fell to the ground where he was kicked and hit with the butt of the rifle multiple times.

While one of the juveniles pointed the rifle at the victim on the floor, the others tipped over a coin-operated game machine and took an unknown amount of money. The victim’s truck keys were taken and the juveniles fled from the scene. The teens were taken into custody two days later and transported to a juvenile holding facility.

The indictments say the teens stole $34 in coins from the machine and the victim’s truck was worth $2,500.

The suspects are scheduled for a hearing on Nov. 5.
