Clarksville, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Rossview High flag football team hosted the Northwest Vikings in a district matchup on Wednesday, April 16. The Hawks defense collected four interceptions on the day, powering Rossview to a 28-6 win, which marked their first victory of the season.

Northwest got the ball to open up the contest, but the first of two interceptions on the night from Markayla Darrington quickly put the Hawks in scoring position. The Hawks intercepted two more passes within the next ten minutes while Kennedi Hill, Emmylou Meyer, and Ataly Stewart all scored touchdowns, and quickly the score was 19-0 at the half.

“We worked on some different things with rotating formations and personnel, and it worked really well,” said Hawks head coach Ben Clark. “We’ve been working hard, and the girls have bought into what we’re doing. We’re getting this program turned in the right direction.”

Northwest got on the board in the second half, courtesy of a Sally Johnson touchdown, but they ultimately fell short in the end. Despite the loss, Northwest head coach Sonja Franklin is optimistic with her team heading into the postseason next week.

“Everyone is hungry this time of year,” said Franklin. “This team is mostly freshmen and sophomores, and every game is a growing experience, so we’re going to take our lumps. All we can do is talk to the girls, instill confidence to make a run, and keep pushing forward.”

As for Rossview, it was a great time to secure their first win of the season and one they can use for momentum as they head into the playoffs.

“We told a lot of the girls it’s a fast season, but it’s a tournament league,” said Clark. “We have to get to the postseason playing our best ball, and that’s what we’re doing now.”
