CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A long-awaited additional City of Clarksville parking garage will see the start of construction next week with site preparation downtown.

The new city parking garage site will be at First and Commerce streets adjacent to the existing Cumberland Parking Garage, according to a news release from city spokesman Jimmy Settle.

Two parking lots in the path of construction will need to be closed: the lot behind and next to the Roxy Regional Theatre, and the lot at First and Commerce Streets between the Cumberland Garage and the 911 Center. These parking lots will be closed May 8.

Spring Alley will remain open until a date to be determined in July, when it will close for underground utility work, site excavation and for safety during construction activities.

This new garage will offer 587 parking spaces. It’s designed to address the growing need for more parking downtown, including from the opening of F&M Bank Arena, plus a planned city Performing Arts Center at the site of the Roxy, the news release said.

This is a separate project from the 724-space parking garage being built by Montgomery County between Riverview Inn and the F&M Bank Arena.

The new garage will connect to the existing Cumberland Parking Garage at Second and Commerce, and a pedestrian bridge will extend from the Second Street level of the garage to 110 Franklin St., immediately adjacent to the future Performing Arts Center.

Among key features, the parking garage will include infrastructure for electric vehicle charging, the news release said.

It is expected to be completed in late summer 2024. After the May 8 closure of existing parking, the site will be fenced off around May 15, and demolition and site work are to begin around the end of May. The contractor is to be TRC Construction Services of Brentwood, Tennessee.
