CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A record amount of rain fell in Clarksville on Sunday, with 4.26 inches measured, according to the National Weather Service.
That’s the fourth time since 2000 that 4 inches of rain has fallen in a single day – and the third time was earlier this month, on May 8, with 4.3 inches.
“Through yesterday, we’ve measured 12.87 inches of rain (this month) at Outlaw Field, which is 8.68 inches above normal for the month,” the NWS said.
Flood Warning on Red River
A Flood Warning has been issued for the Red River at Port Royal through early Wednesday morning.
At 9:30 a.m. Monday, the stage was 34.9 feet and rising – that’s 5 feet over the 30-foot flood stage. The river is expected to crest at 37.1 feet Monday evening. It will then fall below flood stage late Tuesday afternoon, the NWS said.

At 36 feet, flooding continues to affect agricultural land, parks, and access areas along the river, including the Red River Valley Park where water reaches campsites and evacuations may be needed, and Port Royal Rd near Hwy 238 which is covered with water. Water approaches Dunbar Cave Road just west of Warfield Boulevard and may be impassable at higher levels.
Advisory on Cumberland River
A Flood Advisory has been issued for the Cumberland River at Clarksville through early Wednesday morning.
At 9 a.m. Monday, the river was at 40.41 feet and rising. Flood stage is 46 feet. The river is expected to crest at 42.8 feet overnight tonight.
At 40.0 feet, Low lying areas along the river, including agricultural areas, access points, and portions of Riverfront Park on North Riverside Dr begin to be inundated. Water also backs up adjacent tributaries, including Bartons Creek, Red River, West Fork Red River, and Yellow Creek.
