CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The YMCA of Middle Tennessee will close two locations as well as the Wadlington Tennis Center this year.

The North Clarksville location and Harding Place location (Nashville) will close on or before May 15. The Wadlington Tennis Center, a stand-alone warehouse space located near the Doneslson-Hermitage Y, will cease operation on June 30.

The nonprofit organization has labeled the closures as a restructuring decision in an effort to evaluate long-term financial sustainability.

The North Clarksville location opened in December 2013, but representatives said its performance has not met projections and the current membership is not enough to keep the facility going long-term.

Altogether, the three facilities have combined annual operating losses exceeding $850,000.

“While we are disappointed that we won’t be able to continue offering wellness services in a location that’s more convenient for North Clarksville residents, we’re very fortunate to have a strong and viable membership center on Hillcrest Drive that can continue to operate programs like Day Camp, After Breast Cancer and Learn to Swim for residents of both north and south Clarksville,” said James “O’Bee” O’Bryant, District Executive Director.

“While this is a tough decision, the need is still there. We are committed to serve this community to the best of our abilities. Innovation and thinking outside the box is our call to action now.”

The Y will continue to provide day camp pick-up in the North Clarksville area so it can continue to serve summer campers, whose programs will not be interrupted as a result of the closure.

Members of the North Clarksville and Harding Place centers will receive free, one-month passes to use any of the other 16 centers in the YMCA of Middle Tennessee association following the closure of their facility. They will then have the option to have their membership transferred to a new “home center.”
