Montgomery County Courts reschedules court dates in response to COVID-19 order

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW)-  The Montgomery County Court Complex was closed on Monday, March 16 for officials to discuss how to proceed with business while upholding the Supreme Court order issued last week.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Supreme Court issued an order on March 13, 2020 suspending in-person court proceedings through March 31, 2020.

The Montgomery County Court released all details on daily court operations until March 31 on their official website.

The following information is included:

  • The limited types cases that the court will take up during this time will basically involve incarcerated criminal defendants; or emergency hearing types.
  • During this time, the Clerk’s Office will remain open and Judges will be available to hear limited types of matters as outlined in the order.
  • Jury Duty – No jurors will be called in during this period of time.
  • Statutes of Limitations, Orders of Protections and Temporary Injunctions that expire between March 13th and March 31, 2020 – Are extended through April 6, 2020.
  • Payment Plans – We realize that some people may be facing financial distress or may be out of work due to COVID-19 concerns.  We will be happy to work with you on revising your payment plan should you be unable to make your payments.

Court dates will be updated on their online court records as they become available.  To check a case for rescheduled court dates, visit:  https://mcgtn.org/circuit/online-court-records.  You may also check with your Attorney or your Bail Bonding Agent (in criminal cases) if you have one.

Montgomery County Court dates have been rescheduled as follows: 

Magistrate Ashleigh Travis (child support):

  • 03/17/20: Circuit Child Support is rescheduled to 04/27/20, same hearing time
  • 03/19/20: Juvenile Child Support is rescheduled to 06/04/20, same hearing time

*Inmates will have arraignments, bond hearings, and trials by video. Magistrate Travis’s office will be in contact with counsel for incarcerated clients to relay any changes in hearing dates or times.

Judge Kathryn Olita (Circuit Court Division V):

  • Cases set March 16, 17, & 18: Judge’s office is calling parties to reschedule
  • Cases set March 20, 30, & 31: Judge’s office is sending letters to reschedule
  • Show Causes: Contact Clerk’s Office to reschedule

Judge William R. Goodman, III (Circuit Court Division II – Criminal Dockets)

  • 03/16/20: In jail arraignments done by video, all non-inmate cases reset to 04/01/20
  • 03/18/20: No open court, all cases reset to 05/15/20
  • 03/19/20: In jail arraignments and settlements will be heard that day, all others reset to 04/02/20
  • March Trial Term: Dockets will be called each day, resets to be announced in court
  • 03/27/20: Docket will be called in open court and resets announced that day

Judge Jill Ayers (Circuit Court Division IV – Criminal Dockets)

  • March Trial Term: All dockets for the week will be called on 03/23/20 and settlements or resets will be announced in court on that day

Judge Ross Hicks (Circuit Court Division I) – Information should be available on 3/17/20.

All General Sessions Judges (Criminal and Civil Dockets)

All cases (non-inmate) are being reset 4 weeks out, same day of the week and time as originally set. Judges will review jail cases each day and results will be entered into the computer as soon as possible.

Trooper tickets will be reset to the officer’s next court date:

  • Trooper Dacosta: 03/20/20 moved to 04/17/20
  • Trooper Seay: 03/27/20 moved to 05/15/20
    Trooper Naquin: 03/25/20 moved to 04/29/20
  • Trooper Allen: 03/18/20 moved to 04/08/20

Civil parties may send in reset letters if they desire a different date.
