CPD looks to closely monitor motorists continually driving laps around ‘Rhonda the Roundabout’

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Following Rhonda the Roundabout’s official debut on Tuesday, there were a few missteps that took social media by storm, including some motorists who decided to take dozens of laps around the new roundabout in Clarksville. However, in days since, CPD may look to issue citations for any violations and unsafe activity in the area, if necessary.

A day after one motorist participated in “The Rhonda 500,” where they drove 500 laps around the new roundabout at the intersection of Needmore and Whitfield Road, Clarksville Now reached out to the City of Clarksville to see if they had any safety concerns with actions such as these.

In an official statement, the City of Clarksville responded and said, “Motorists who are continually, and sometimes almost unceasingly driving laps around the inner circle of the new Whitfield-Needmore roundabout are creating unnecessary traffic safety concerns, especially around the nearby school.

“As a result of these activities, the Clarksville Police Department is more-closely monitoring motorist activity within the roundabout,” said the statement from the city.

Correction: The roundabout at Needmore and Whitfield Road is not technically the first in Clarksville; it is the first one at a major intersection.
