Aerosmith turns Japan tour into concert film

Aerosmith’s 2011 tour of Japan is to be released as a new concert movie.

The group commissioned a film crew to follow the band as it played seven venues in the country, hoping to use the footage for future videos, but it was so good, Steven Tyler and his pals decided to edit it for a revealing new movie.

Aerosmith: Rock for the Rising Sun will open online and in cinemas later this month before getting a DVD release.

A spokesman for SpectiCast, who have teamed up with the band for the release, tells WENN, “The footage that makes up the film was originally only intended for Aerosmith’s personal archives, but the band and its management found it so captivating that they wanted to make it available to their fans.”

The tour was an emotional one for the group and its fans as it came shortly after Tyler reunited with his bandmates after a brief break-up, and they toured Japan six months after a huge earthquake, a monstrous tsunami, and the subsequent meltdown of the Fukushima nuclear plant hit the nation.

The spokesman adds, “In the fall of 2011, despite advice to the contrary, Aerosmith brought their Back On The Road tour to Japan, a country with which they had always had a special relationship. Fans came out in droves and Aerosmith responded with some of the finest performances of their career.”

The film will premiere on the SpectiCast network beginning on Oct. 17.
